Gymnasts place second

The Blair gymnastics team placed second at their meet tonight against Walter Johnson and Springbrook. Although still plagued by injuries and absences, the Blazers managed to beat Springbrook by four points, ending with an accumulated score of 130.25.

Inexperience leads to gymnastics first loss

The gymnastics team lost their first meet to the Bethesda Chevy-Chase Barons today with a roster of mainly inexperienced gymnasts. The Blazer team, which was only created a few years ago, tried their best against the more experienced Barons. "We did pretty well considering most of our team is new to gymnastics," said co-captain Nicole Poor.

Warriors sweep Blair

The Blair varsity girls' volleyball team ended their two-game winning streak tonight against the Sherwood Warriors. The three-set game brought out some of Blair's best playing, barely losing against a superior team.

SEPT. 13, NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMANISUM— The Blair girls' varsity team volleyball served their way to another win tonight against the Richard Montgomery Rockets in a four set win. The Blazers ruled the court against the inexperienced Rockets with powerful spikes and almost perfect teamwork. Blair faltered in the third set however, continuously serving into the net, allowing Richard Montgomery to win 21-25, after winning the first two sets with large leads, 25-9 and 25-10. The final set revealed Blair's ability to come back and clinch a win that was rightfully theirs, winning the set 25-15 and the game three to one.

Gymnastics place fifth at Counties

MAY 9, WALTER JOHNSON GYMNASIUM— After a long night of competing against six other teams at Counties, the Blair gymnastics team left the Walter Johnson gymnasium full of hope for next year. Although there were no Blazers in the top six in any category, Blair beat Springbrook and Gaithersburg by more than 10 points. Missing some key competitors because of injuries, the Blazers felt they did their considering their situation. "I'm pretty satisfied. It wasn't a great meet but it was fun. We placed better than last year," said senior co-captain Rose Feinberg.

Blair beats Springbrook but bested by WJ

The Blair gymnastics team competed today against the Walter Johnson Wildcats and the Springbrook Blue Devils in a fairly even match-up. Blair took second place with 149.45 behind the strong Wildcats (169.25) and in front of the Blue Devils (115.17). Although Blair placed second, the Blazers seemed to be cursed as soon as they stepped foot into the gymnasium. Plagued by falls and injuries, Blair persevered and finished with second.

MARCH 31, NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM— The Blair's girls gymnastics team pulled off a slim victory against the Blake Bengals on March 31. The Blazers won by just one point, 151.75 to 150.75, with many individual awards as well.

Oct. 26, NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMANISUM— Confidence was high tonight as the Blair girls' volleyball team prepared for their final home game of the season against the Seneca Valley Eagles. The Blazers started off strong with accurate serves but as the night went on they let their guard down. Poor court coverage and wild passes were the main causes for Blair's loss in three sets, 24-26, 19-25 and 17-25.

Blair girls' varsity volleyball served their way to another win tonight against the Kennedy Cavaliers in a three set win. The Blazers serving and saving were consistent against a tireless Kennedy team. Blair fell short of their expectations however; winning by smaller margins than they hoped, 25-17, 25-18, and 26-24. Blair sprinted ahead of Kennedy during the beginning of every set because of accurate serving, but had to work hard to keep ahead of the Cavaliers and secure a win.

Oct. 14, NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMANISUM— The Blair girls' varsity volleyball team walked onto the court tonight after a win against Whitman on Monday, confident that they could again emerge victorious against the Einstein Titans. The Blazers exceeded even their own expectations, as the team played the best they have all year, winning 25-13, 25-11, and 25-22, exhibiting impressive serving and communication throughout the match. Blair showed excellent teamwork and energy in the first two sets, but was forced to come from behind in the last set to clinch the win tonight.

Oct. 5, NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM— The Blair girls' varsity volleyball team made a valiant effort in a down to the wire contest against the Blake Bengals tonight. The Blazers played some of their best volleyball of the year, but eventually lost a tie-breaking fifth set after splitting the first four. In the first two sets, a lack of communication doomed Blair to losses, but more evident teamwork in the final three sets made for a very close contest.

SEPT. 29, BETHESDA CHEVY CHASE— Excitement was brewing this afternoon as the varsity girls' volleyball team made its way towards Bethesda - Chevy Chase high school. The Blazers hoped to ameliorate their losing record, end their current losing trend and gain some momentum for the rest of the season with a win against a talented Baron team. Unfortunately, Blair was unable to overcome difficulties in communication and focus, and they lost in three sets, 14-25, 22-25, and 14-25, simultaneously lowering their record to 2-5.

Blazers succumb to Trojans

Sept. 22, NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM— Blair's varsity girls volleyball added another loss to their record with a humiliating defeat to the Gaithersburg Trojans tonight. The Trojans easily defeated the Blazers in three overmatched sets, 14-25, 15-25, and 15-25. Blair was unable to combat Gaithersburg's superior power, teamwork and endurance, extending Blair's losing streak to three and bringing their record down to 2-3.

Sept. 9, Nelson H. Kobren Memorial Gymnasium— Still suffering from a loss against Churchill, the Blair varsity girls' volleyball endured an agonizing defeat against the Quince Orchard Cougars tonight. The Blazers played a suspenseful four sets, 25-21, 16-25, 25-22, and 24-26, unable in the end to hold off the rallying Cougars. Lackluster playing and a lack of teamwork cost the Blazers a much-needed win.

SEPT. 9, NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM— Two days after a victory against the Paint Branch Panthers, the varsity girls' volleyball team charged onto the court, defeating the Rockville Rams in three straight sets, 25-21, 25-20 and 25-19. Serves were very influential in the outcome with Rockville struggling to clear the net, while Blair had several aces in the second and third set.
