McKnight will begin her term on July 1

On Tuesday, the school board voted to approve Monifa McKnight as the new MCPS superintendent after announcing her as their pick for superintendent in February. In addition to finalizing her employment, details regarding her contract and salary were also approved.

By her contract, she is now required to move to Montgomery County from her current residence in Bowie by the end of June 2023.

As the first female superintendent of MCPS, McKnight will begin a four-year term on July 1. Since March 2021, she has served as the interim superintendent. Prior to that, she was the deputy superintendent and second-in-command to then-Superintendent Jack Smith.
