The Blair Varsity boys’ football team handily beat the Einstein Titans 62-6

On Thursday, Sept. 24, the Blair Blazers (3-1) defeated the Einstein Titans (0-4) by a season-high margin of 56 points. Blair dominated the game on both offense and defense, scoring numerous explosive plays while conceding just six points.

Einstein started the game with possession, but the Titans struggled to gain yards against Blair’s defense. The Blazers’ offense came out strong, scoring three unanswered touchdowns in the first ten minutes. The Blazers continued to apply defensive pressure, highlighted by an interception by No. 33 Teagan Kellman that led to a fourth first-quarter Blair touchdown by No. 6 Surafel Isack on the subsequent drive. Einstein began the next drive on their own 25-yard line, but quarterback Jonah Elinoff threw yet another interception, leaving Blair with a short field. The Blazers’ ended their first-quarter barrage with their fifth touchdown, a pass from quarterback Malachi Rice to Surafel [last name] that brought the score to 34-0.

The Blazers picked up where they left off in the second quarter, with Blazers running back Lucas Copeland rushing for 50 yards for an impressive touchdown.

Sophomore Teagan Kellman, who plays running back and safety on the team, credited the team’s success to the Blazers’ emphasis on practice and discipline. “[The part I am most proud of] is executing and showing people what we can do… we came out here, locked in and made a lot of plays.”

Four minutes before halftime, the Titans finally scored a touchdown from the 20-yard line with a run, much to the excitement of the Einstein student section. However, the team missed the subsequent two-point conversion attempt, bringing the score to 41-6. Blair quickly responded with a touchdown of their own, this time a 30-yard rush by No. 33 Tegan Kellman. Halftime began with a score of 48-6 in favor of the Blazers.

The third and fourth quarters were no different from the first half. Blair scored twice more, on runs by senior Kysen Harris and Colin Roberts. The Blazers’ defense continued to stifle the Einstein offense, and the game concluded with a score of 62-6.

Kicker Smith Loney was a standout performer for the Blazers, making eight out of his nine extra-point attempts.

Next up for the Blazers is a matchup with the Blake Bengals (2-2) on the road on Fri, Oct. 2 at 6:30 PM.
