Election Day today

Tomorrow is an extremely important election, not only for Maryland, but the whole country.

The US House of Representatives and Senate hang in the balance. The current composition of the senate is 49 Democrats, 49 Republicans, and 2 Independent. The House comprises 222 Republicans, 208 Democrats, 2 Independents, and 3 vacancies. The number of Republican, Democrat, and Independent governors is also close. There are 27 Republicans, 21 Democrats, and 2 Independents. Today's election will determine which party gains control of the legislature.

The governor's race and the Maryland 8th congressional district race are both very close. Democrat and Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend and Republican Bob Ehrlich are running head to head. Current polls have them still running very evenly. This is the case for the candidates in the 8th congressional district, as well. Democrat Chris Van Hollen and incumbent Republican Connie Morella have been running a very close race.

Morella and Townsend were both endorsed by the Washington Post, which could sway the race just enough to make either one of them win. Townsend has been endorsed by The Baltimore Sun, The Gazette, Prince George's Journal, The Capital, Montgomery Journal, The AFRO, Washington Hispanic, Washington Jewish Week, and Baltimore Jewish Times. On the other hand, Ehrlich has been endorsed by The Washington Times, Patuxent Newspapers, and numerous organizations including the Montgomery County Fraternal Order of Police.

The Republicans will make history tomorrow if they gain seats. Generally, the party of the sitting President loses seats. Everyone should get out there and vote because the winners of this election have a hand in your future.
