Fundraiser held for Silver Spring art project

The design plans for the Arts on the Block Gateway Underpass Project was unveiled at a fundraiser held in Silver Spring. Jackie's Restaurant and Lounge hosted the event on Monday, Jan. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. The money raised by the fundraiser will go towards buying supplies to build the mural.
PTSA fundraiser extended after communication error

Due to an advertising error, the PTSA extended their El Golfo fundraiser for an additional evening, to Jan. 26. The event raised $595, more than any previous fundraiser held by other schools at the Silver Spring restaurant.

Blair to hold winter spirit week, pep rally

Blair will hold a second semester spirit week, SGA Chief of Staff Eric Hysen announced Friday. The SGA-coordinated event, which was approved Friday afternoon, will be held from Feb. 13 to Feb. 17, and will feature five themed spirit days, culminating in a winter sports pep rally at the end of Friday afternoon.
New magnet programs to be implemented in Montgomery County

Fire alarm pulled

The fire alarm went off at approximately 7:18 a.m. today, triggering a successful evacuation despite problems with the alarm system. Although the flashing lights functioned properly, the fire alarm's speakers were temporarily inoperative, according to Principal Phillip Gainous.

Blair's It's Academic team competes in KMO

Blair's It's Academic team placed ninth out of 794 schools worldwide in the Knowledge Master Open, held in the Blair IMC on Dec. 7. In Maryland, the team placed second behind Richard Montgomery High School. KMO is an international academic competition which tests students' knowledge on topics ranging from science and math to humanities, history and trivia.
Shots fired in Beltway chase

Police pursued four shoplifting suspects last night in a dramatic rush-hour chase around the Beltway, ending with the crash of the suspects' vehicle on Colesville Road, according to Montgomery County Police press releases. Three of the suspects were arrested; one was taken to MedStar hospital after receiving gunshot wounds from police.
