The gymnasium of the White Oak Recreation Center has been turned into the vaccination room. Qualifying residents of Montgomery County come to this room after checking in in order to receive their shots.
An eligible Montgomery County resident receives their first dose of the vaccine. Montgomery County as a whole is currently working on vaccinating group 1C which includes, but is not limited to, “health care providers, 75 and older individuals, and mcps officials” says Lukos. How many people get vaccinated daily depends on the vaccine allotment that the country gives to each vaccination site. At the moment, vaccinations are not open to the public and individuals in priority groups are invited to sign up for appointments.
Maryland Medical Reserve volunteers check in those with appointments using PrepMod which is Maryland's Mass Vaccination System. Montgomery County is taking measures to try and ensure equitable distribution of the vaccine - “whoever doesn’t have access to email and those who cannot do the work, there is a phone line that they can call to give information and there is a spreadsheet with all individuals' names. Once they register online, IT and DTS staff are working together as a team and they sort out everyone's lists where they will be placed on priority groups” says Lukos.
A line forms outside of the station where recipients have to confirm their appointment with the volunteers running the vaccination clinic. According to the County, about 22.9% of Montgomery County residents have already received their first dose of the vaccine.
