Trying out for the one-acts

Sitting in my third period class, I try to cover my nervousness by joining in the laughter at the Info Flow pack announcing the Thespian Club tryouts for the one act performances. Watching the two mock auditions get torn apart by the judges, I pretend that I think the video as funny as everyone else. The announcement ends and the class begins, but I can't seem to ignore the butterflies that have been filling my stomach. The butterflies could only come from one thing. Today will be the day I overcome all my worries and anxieties and subject myself to the judgment of my director peers.

Cars towed from student parking lot

About twenty cars were towed from the student parking lot on Tuesday, March 18 for failing to have the authorized permit showing. Each students will have to pay a fee of at least $78 to get their car back.

Three anti-war activities planned for Valentine's Day

An anti-war teach-in, followed by a rally and a concert, will be held on Friday, February 14. The teach-in, sponsored by Students for Global Responsibility (SGR) and other Blair groups, will be held after school. The concert, sponsored by the Students for Peace and Justice, a county-wide student organization, hopes to attract students from across the county.

The perfect chick-flick is Maid

Maid in Manhattan is the perfect movie for the hopeful romantic who likes a little realism mixed in with the clichés. Although this Cinderella-like romantic comedy has some very predictable moments, many details are presented in such a realistic way that the movie never seems too unbelievable. Realistic touches include Jennifer Lopez playing single mother Marisa, a hotel maid, wears the same sweater jacket throughout the movie and her son's room is always messy.

"Standing in the Shadows of Motown” is the story of the Funk Brothers, the band that was the unknown sound and soul of Motown music. This documentary is a beautiful collage of videos, pictures, and narratives. Wonderfully cohesive and continuously interesting, this movie tells the story of Motown and the group who was the very foundation of Motown.

The appetizers are good, but not necessary because of the over abundances chips and salsa. The food is tasty, with a variety of meat choices, plus entirely vegetarian dishes.

Maryland Distinguished Scholars at Blair

Many Blair students have been chosen for the Maryland Distinguished Scholar award this year. The Maryland Higher Education Commission considers students for the award in the spring and notifies them individually over the summer, but the high schools find out in the fall, Resource counselor Karen Hunt said. The award is given in both the categories of academics and fine arts. Finalists receive a scholarship of three-thousand dollars to any Maryland college and semi-finalists are placed on an alternate list.
