Boys' Soccer Last year's record-breaking varsity soccer squad was the culmination of a deep roster with experienced upperclassmen and cultivated talent at every position. But with just four senior starters on this year's team - goalie Jonathan Fortuna, defenders Tim Visclosky and Jonathan Safer and midfielder Sergio Quisquinay - Blair's recipe for success could not be replicated. Finishing with a 3-8-1 record and a first-round exit in the state playoffs following a loss to Wootton, Blair dealt with its share of disappointments. After beginning the season strongly, the Blazers lost five straight games before beating up on county lightweight Blake, 7-1. During that stretch of losses, the Blazers scored just one goal while allowing nearly three per game. Despite the shortcomings, the team appears poised for a brighter future. Sophomores James Thomas and Alexander Baldwin were defensive mainstays all season, and junior Mike McClain flashed moments of brilliance in his four-goal game against Richard Montgomery. Sophomore Otis Banwell, captain of the junior varsity team, will also be counted on.

When the first edition of this year's Silver Chips volume was distributed last month, I heard the complaints. And I understand where those complaints were coming from. Having read the newspaper religiously two years before joining the staff, I took pride in the fact my school's newspaper was a forum for student expression. I took interest in the diversity and eccentricity highlighted in many Chips stories. And I think we all feel that there are still more stories out there - more students to reach and more news waiting for our reporters. When Silver Chips doesn't catch a story, the newspaper is cheating the very students for whom it is printed.

Sophomore Michael Wilkinson's first memories of Blair are like a bad dream. He remembers droves of giants strolling past him, slurring phrases he'd never heard before. He recalls the swirling colors around him and the alien faces he'd never before seen in a school setting.

OCT. 19, BLAZER FIELD— Win or lose, Senior Night is always a night to remember for Blair seniors. But for Blair's field hockey team, the last regular season game of the year — and the last home game for the Blazers' seniors — was marked by the continuation of frustrating yearlong trends. Blair (4-8) failed to match Paint Branch's lone goal, and fell to the Panthers 1-0.

"Crank" offers the worst in typical action

In its title screen sequence, "Crank" is introduced with a series of splashy video game and three-dimensional graphics culminating in a display of the movie's title in a font reminiscent of 1980s arcade favorite "Pac-Man."
