On Monday, Feb. 12th, non-profit organization WorkForce Montgomery visited Blair to promote employment best practices and opportunities. The visit was organized by Blair’s Career and Technology Education (CTE) Resource Teacher Karen Taylor-Boone and Career Coach Albert Bell.

The WorkSource Montgomery mobile unit provided Blair students who were looking to enter the workforce immediately after leaving high school with job search and resume preparation help. “The van that does the mobile unit and people on there help you with resumes, they can help you write on the spot with the employment,” Bell says.

New legislation passed by the Maryland State Department of Education under the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future requires “a Career Counseling Program for Middle and High School Students.” Bell is contracted by MCPS under Worksource Montgomery to provide Career Coaching services for Blair, one of six MCPS high schools with a Career Coach. His office is located at the end of the BNC Hallway, in Room 101A.

Blair’s College and Career Information Coordinator Jazmine Delos Reyes says that WorkSource Montgomery provides workforce-ready high school students with the resources they need to pursue their interests. “They help you get a job, to be really independent …They came yesterday because we have 12th graders who are workforce ready and they're just not college bound,” she says.

For students interested in joining the workforce immediately after graduation, Bell’s doors are always open. “I can give you some ideas if you need help with your resume, if you if you're undecided, we can have a conversation.”
