Springbrook's athleticism leads to easy looks as Blair falls, 69-47
The three-time defending state champ Blue Devils came to MBHS Tuesday, Jan. 4 and beat up on the boys varsity basketball team. Blair came out strong - with three minutes left in the first half, the game was knotted at 16 apiece. But the Blazer defense began to lose steam as Springbrook went on a 12-2 run to close the second quarter. Those defensive breakdowns carried over to the second half, which featured a faster, more athletic Springbrook team pushing the ball up the floor and getting easy buckets.
"We let our inability to score the ball offensively affect our defense," head coach Mark DeStefano said. "We have to be a tougher team than that."
Check out game highlights above. Springbrook forward Demetric Austin poured in a game-high 22 points, and point guard Enerio Jones added 20. Guards Tucker Canary and Charles Ruffin finished with 12 each for Blair.
Blair's record is now 3-8 after losses to Sherwood on Friday and Magruder on Wednesday. The Blazers will host Gaithersburg on Friday at 5:15 pm.
