Update: SGA parliamentarian removed from office

After two and a half weeks, the SGA announced that their parliamentarian, Jacob Asbell, had been removed from office by Blair administration. Asbell was removed by Principal Phillip Gainous after an incident on Sept. 20 when he made an "illicit gesture" during a freshman class assembly.

"I found out from [Assistant Principal Linda] Wanner the next day," said Asbell.

The SGA Review Board asked to be allowed to deal with the matter internally. "Our request was denied but we did publish a statement acknowledging Mr. Gainous's decision," said junior Alex Hyder, Chief Justice of the Review Board.

"Jacob Asbell made the illicit gesture towards his friend in the light box and not at the freshmen class," said SGA President Barun Aryal. "Still, Mr. Gainous felt that this did not exemplify leadership qualities, and he asserted his constitutional right to remove an SGA member from office."

Under the SGA constitution Gainous was required to notify SGA sponsor Rondai Ravilious of his decision through a formal letter, according to Aryal. Ravilious said she received official notification from both Gainous and Wanner.

Asbell has been replaced as parliamentarian by a former senator, junior Christie Lin. Lin's position of senator has yet to be filled.
