The best awards show looks this season

We live in an age in which the winners of awards rarely shock and surprise. Instead, the audience watches those who grace the Red Carpet for some spice. The Red Carpet never fails to deliver both shockingly gorgeous and unflattering dresses. As the awards shows wrap up for this year, SilverChic separates the exceptionally glamorous from the rest of the pack.

The Oscars
This year's Best Actress winner, Sandra Bullock, is also a winner in SilverChic's book. Bullock looked elegant with an Old Hollywood aura in a vintage cream gown. The classy lady even went to the Razzies to accept her Worst Actress Award for "All About Steve", showing her down-to-earth side.

Best Supporting Actress nominee Vera Farmiga certainly made an entrance this year in a bold fuchsia strapless dress with endless ruffles. There is always room for spontaneity, especially in a ballroom filled with monotonous Little Black Dresses.

The quirky Carey Mulligan showed off her creative side in a black Black Prada gown with a twist. The Swarovski crystals scattered across her dress were in the shapes of knives, forks and scissors - you've got to love a girl with creativity.

The glowing Penelope Cruz did not disappoint at the Oscars. A queen of awards shows, Cruz looked regal in a scarlet, rippling Donna Karan gown. This "Nine" star is really a perfect 10.

Elizabeth Banks, host of the Nerd Oscars, looked anything but awkward on the Red Carpet. Her grey Versace gown struck the perfect balance between elegant and fun. The tame top half of the gown complimented the cascading ruffles and asymmetrical hemline.

The Emmys
"Gossip Girl" star Leighton Meester is certainly a trendy trendsetter. She paired a Bottega Veneta white dress with a matching clutch and bright red lipstick. Meester combined the strong shoulders trend with a popular vintage look.

Heidi Klum proved that women are most beautiful during pregnancy. She was radiant in a figure-hugging black floor-length dress that drew attention to her belly. She balanced the glamorous dress with natural makeup and hair drawn back into a bun.

The Screen Actors' Guild Awards
Jaws dropped for Kate Hudson in her Emilio Pucci number. She paired the backless white gown with a Cartier necklace. Husdon showed just enough skin by opting for a floor-length dress.

The Grammys
It is either a hit or miss with Lady Gaga, a woman who makes no compromises for fashion. Her look is always eccentric, but this time, she pulled it off. Lady Gaga looked like a celestial goddess in a peach Giorgio Armani knee length dress. Though her hair and makeup were borderline tacky, her ostentatious spiked ring kept the outfit fresh and original.

Taylor Swift is the antithesis of Lady Gaga. Her glittery, ocean blue Kaufman Franco gown was simple yet outstanding. This talented young singer climbed to the top, in an off-the-shoulders, floor-length gown to boot.

Fergie's metallic Emilio Pucci mini dress stood out among the flamboyant gowns. Tonight was definitely a good night for this leggy blue number.

The trendy trio, Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas, will always make the best-dressed list. The Jonas Brothers cleaned up well in classic tuxes.

MTV Video Music Awards
The fiery Beyonce looked red hot in a Robert Cavalli minidress with a plunging neckline. She looked gorgeous without trying to hard, choosing to wear her hair naturally. It looks like she saved the hard work for the Kanye West fiasco.

Again, the fearless Taylor Swift makes it onto the best-dressed list. Swift shined in a sequined Kaufman Franco gown. She emulated the glamorous Mia Farrow, wearing bold red lipstick and fashioning her hair into a bob.

Fashion designer Whitney Port looked like a model in a chic, strapless mini-dress. Port put a twist on the classic Little Black Dress, unevenly layering the skirt.

Newcomer Cobra Starship looked particularly fresh. The group kept a gray, black, white and red color theme. The boys donned crisp suits while Victoria Asher chose a quirky, stripped mini-dress.
