Many activities aim to get new Blazers involved with Blair

Throughout September and October, Blair's Student Government Association (SGA) will hold multiple events, including the school year's first blood drive. Events begin Sept. 16 with the annual activity fair. The blood drive and freshman elections will be held the following week. Activities in October - including a spirit week, class hallway decorating, a pep rally and a tailgate party - will center on the homecoming game and dance.

Blazers will gather on Blair Boulevard during periods 5 and 6 to learn about Blair's numerous clubs and activities in which students can participate. Clubs will set up displays with information about their activities and how students can join. This year the activity fair will be held for two consecutive days, because many students did not get the chance to visit in past years, according to SGA President Adam Biru.

Blazers who are 16 and older can donate blood on September 21. Students under the age of 16 must present a signed parent consent form to donate blood. The blood drive will continue throughout the day to accommodate the number of students willing donate. This year, the SGA has also encouraged parents to participate. "We are trying to reach out to parents to donate this year," Biru said.

Freshman Elections, Sept. 29-30
Freshmen will vote for their SGA class president and vice president on Sept. 29 and 30. Freshmen who are interested in running for freshman class president are required to get a petition form from the SGA office and gather signatures supporting their candidacy. After the candidates turn in their petitions, they must agree to the terms of the election. Campaign speeches will be held on a date that is to be decided, according to SGA Parliamentarian David Struewing. Freshmen will vote on either Sept. 29 or 30, during their English class period.

Homecoming Week, Oct. 18-23
Homecoming week activities will begin on Oct. 18 with spirit week and end on Oct. 23 with Blair's annual homecoming dance. The SGA has started the process of deciding homecoming themes for students to vote for, and throughout spirit week students are encouraged to wear outfits based on daily themes.

On Oct. 21 after school, each class will decorate an allotted section of Blair Boulevard based on their respective class spirit day themes. Blazers will vote for which class had the best decorations.

On Oct. 22, there will be a homecoming pep rally to encourage students to attend the homecoming game and dance. After school there will be a tailgate party in the parking lot outside of the football stadium to prepare for the football game. At 6:30 p.m. the festivities will end with the homecoming football game against Walter Johnson High School.

The homecoming dance will be held the night of Oct. 23 in the Student Activity Center (SAC).
