The Pine Players perform, earn money for future performances

The Pine Players, a student-run acting group, held a fund-raising gala on Sat. at the Silver Spring stage in the Woodmoor Shopping Center at 8:00 p.m. with the intention of earning funds for their acting group.

The gala was held in order to raise money needed to pay for attaining the stage, sets, costumes, props and lighting required for Pine Players to continue performing and donating their proceeds to Bread for the City, a charity organization in the District of Columbia. "We're realizing we need a base of funds to continue putting on performances to benefit Bread for the City," explained junior Michael Novello, the director of "The Miss Firecracker Contest."

At the performance the troupe performed various scenes from their previous plays, such as "The Miss Firecracker Contest" and "Crimes of the Heart," as well as a scene from their upcoming showing of "A Man for all Seasons" and a dance number to "All That Jazz."

The gala collected $1000.54, mostly from individual contributors, according to actress and treasurer Shoshana Gurian-Sherman. Two businesses donated to the fund. The group's next performance will be "A Man for all Seasons" by Robert Bolt, which will be performed in late Feb. according to Gurian-Sherman.
