Seniors say goodbye and wish their teammates good luck
After a long night of competing against six other teams at Counties, the Blair gymnastics team left the Walter Johnson gymnasium full of hope for next year. Although there were no Blazers in the top six in any category, Blair beat Springbrook and Gaithersburg by more than 10 points. Missing some key competitors because of injuries, the Blazers felt they did their considering their situation. "I'm pretty satisfied. It wasn't a great meet but it was fun. We placed better than last year," said senior co-captain Rose Feinberg.
This meet was the last for seniors Feinberg, Raya Steinberg, Edra Brisbane, Elena Ramsey, and Jenny Jones. "It's been a good four years,' said Steinberg. "We have more fun than anyone else," adds Feinberg.
For this team, fun is more important than winning. "It's always fun. It's the girls that have never done gymnastics before that always appreciate it more," says Steinberg. Coach Ronnie Joice agrees. Despite Blair's losses, she said: "It's been a great season, how well we all get along. I'm looking forward to next season,".
Next season is shaping up to be a successful one as well. Feinberg believes the team will continue to better themselves. "This year we had a lot of young talent. I think that they'll continue to get better next year," she said. Junior Lisa Wong will hopefully recover from her injuries and be able to compete next season. A combination of seasoned competitors such as Wong, Poor and sophomore Nazanin Yousefnejad along with budding young talent like freshmen Abby Cember and Anna Hadfield will ensure a fun and successful season next year.
