Fifth annual international event

Participating comic book stores will hold the fifth annual Free Comic Book Day on Sat. May 6. Twenty eight special editions will be distributed free of charge.

According to the Free Comic Book Day web site, this event is occurring to offer an opportunity for people who do not normally read comics to become involved in comics.

Various comic agencies, such as DC, Marvel and Darkhorse, have made special editions to be distributed specifically on Free Comic Book Day. Popular titles such as "Justice League" and "GI Joe" will be available as well as a Marvel crossover between "X-Men" and the "Runaways." A full list of the available comics can be found here.

Local comic book store Alliance plans to participate in the event for the third year in a row. Manager Tory Allen believes that Free Comic Book Day helps get the community involved in comics. "I think it is good for the community."
