Finals and All-stars mark the end of the floor hockey season

FEB 27, NELSON H. KOBREN GYMNASIUM –

Floor hockey team Stormin' Normandy (SN) overcame Teachers United (TU) today in the championships with a score of 3-0. Immediately afterwards the Red Division defeated the White Division in the All-Star game with a score of 4-1.

The Red Division Championship game was non-stop excitement as SN and TU battled for the Changuris Cup. In the first half senior Josh Gottlieb-Miller, who had nightmares about the game, scored two consecutive goals for SN, the first of which was shot from half court. SN, which had beat TU earlier in the season, held their lead with the help of senior Jesse Galef's strong defense and skilled mid-field plays. Galef also made many vital assists throughout the game. The second half was a defensive struggle where no points were scored.

Similarly, the first half of the All-Star game was a flurry of goals while the second half was mainly back and forth action between the two teams. Both the Red Division and White Division teams consisted of three players from each team in the league playing for their respective divisions. Some called the game "chaotic" because most of the players hadn't played together. The Red Division took advantage of this and while the White Division was still trying to get used to the playing arrangement the Red Division put it all out to secure them a 3-1 lead by the end of the first half.

Senior goalie Anna Benfield was proud of SN's performance today. "We managed to cover people better than usual. The team communicated well when they were passing," Benfield said. Benfield also was happy with her performance and said, "I finally feel like I have my bearing." With incredible and consistent saves, only one goal was scored on her throughout both games today.

Although some players were fidgety and anxious before the game, most players seemed satisfied with the results. "Storming Normandy played like champs and caught us a little off guard. However, I suspect foul play-I think they might have used performance-enhancing agents. I thought I saw team members sharing what might have been a banana before the match," said TU player Mark Grossman.

Not only were the players jumping around on the court but referee Robert Gibb was also. He was very much "in the action" as he had to constantly dodge the balls coming right at him and the players who got in stick clashes right next to him.
