Blazers defeat Northwood by largest margin of the season

BLAZER STADIUM, Mar. 29 —

The boys' varsity lacrosse team (2-2) defeated the Northwood Gladiators (1-2) by a score of 10-3 in the fourth game of the season. The Blazers built their lead throughout the game with steady defense and an explosive offense that Northwood could not corral.

The game against the Gladiators was one that Blair expected to win but not without a challenge. "We knew the game would be tough but we have prepared and worked hard,” junior Joshua Blockstein said. This seemed to be the overall sentiment at the game as the Blazers dominated the field keeping the ball in front of the Gladiator goal for the majority of the match.

Both senior Eric Colbert and sophomore Zach Scarano had hat tricks during the game which boosted team moral. In addition, seniors Cameron Mcpherson and Sean Reilly scored along with juniors Justin Kung and Darnell Downer.

There were plenty of penalties called in favor of the Gladiators with only 4 penalties called in favor of the Blazers, causing a general grumbling from Blair fans that there should have been more penalties called against Northwood. However, the Blazer ball movement allowed them to get off plenty of shot attempts.

Head coach Chris Brown stressed that in earlier games the team was stuck in a losing mentality. "It was a mental loss against the Barons but today everything went much smoother,” said Brown. Along with this new mentality, the Blazers switched up the starting lineup and added two new plays that according to Brown help to solidify the defense. "They got lucky a few times but we never got beat,” junior Gabe Levin said.

The game ended with Blair pulling off its largest victory yet. "They played as a team and they this is the best they have played so far,” said Brown.

The boys' varsity lacrosse team will play their next home game on Thursday, April 12 against Blake at 5:15 p.m.
