JV boys' win of 2-0 improves record to 8-0
OCT. 18, BLAZER STADIUM—
The JV boys' soccer team extended their winning streak to 19 games over the past two seasons with a 2-0 shutout win over Walter Johnson. Blair's season record is now 8-0-0.
Blair played against a strong opponent, and it was not until the second half that Blair scored. Walter Johnson was one of the toughest opponents to date, and the team remained competitive throughout the game. Blair was unable to stay on the offensive, but it was able to exploit the few opportunities that it had. Blair had two breakaways in the second half, which led to goals by Matias Salina and Yendoukoa Lamboni in the 41st and 62nd minute respectively.
Blair's sloppy passing led to unnecessary turnovers. Blair was constantly playing on its side of the field, but the defense made sure to shut out its ninth opponent of the season. The defense was anchored by stops from both sophomore Ethan Kuhnhenn and freshman Noel Aguiree. Both were able to move the ball quickly to the attack from a defensive position.
Freshman Prince Momo led Blair's offense, but the swarming Walter Johnson defense prevented him from taking easy shots. Momo had one scoring opportunity, but a hand-ball by a Walter Johnson defenseman caused the ball to stop just in front of the goal, and the referee did not make a call. The questionable call only ignited Blair, which scored soon after.
Blair was able to involve almost all of its players in both the offensive and defensive effort. Midfielders Alex Asare-Wassow and Nebiat Mekonnen both were extremely dependable in moving the ball to Momo, Lamboni and other forwards in a balanced attack. Asare-Wassow had a perfect cross to Salina for the first goal of the game.
Blair's next game will be at home against Sherwood on Oct. 21 at 5:00 p.m.
