Mercy rule employed as Blair rolls
BLAZER STADIUM, APR 2 --
The Blair baseball team overwhelmed the Kennedy High School Cavalers, 33-1. The game was called after five innings because of the mercy rule.
Every Blazer played at least one inning and reached base at least once except senior Michael Cozy, who was out with a groin injury. Also, several Blazers reached on every at-bat. Several of Blair's usual reserves started today and performed well, including juniors Raymond Anderson, Alex Rumbaugh and Sam Feinstein, the only Blazers to play all five innings.
Coach John Macdonald did not enjoy today's game, but was happy with the performance of his bench players. "It just makes me feel bad to play a game like that. On the other hand, it gave a few guys the opportunity to play who would not otherwise get to."
The Blazers jumped on Kennedy from the beginning, scoring 16 runs in the first inning. They scored at least once in every successive inning. Kennedy's only run came in the third inning on a fly ball to right field.
Anderson pitched all five innings, allowing few hits and even registering a perfect second inning. Blair's next game is tomorrow against Sherwood High School. That game promises to be closer, as Sherwood is challenging Blair for Montgomery County supremacy.
