Forty-two students were recognized in a ceremony on Sept. 25

On Sept. 25, Blair recognized 42 students as semi-finalists for the National Merit Scholarship. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) awards scholarships to the top 3 percent of 11th grade PSAT testers across the country and recognizes approximately 16,000 students as semi-finalists each year. Maryland's qualifying score to become a semi-finalist by the NMSC this year was 223, one of the highest in the country and one point higher than last year's qualifying score. Out of all the schools in Maryland, Blair is home to the most semi-finalists.

The students were celebrated in an afternoon reception held in the Student Activities Center. To commemorate their success, Principal Renay Johnson tweeted a picture of the students, captioned, "Congratulations to our 42 National Merit semi-finalists! The most in the state! Excellent work, Blazers!"
