Last week, Blair's school store reopened after previously shutting down due to a lack of funding. The store is run exclusively by students in the Blair Entrepreneurship Academy.

Bertha Garcia walked in the door on the first day of school and was shocked by the number of students she saw and intimidated by the size of Blair. Although she tried her hardest, she got lost several times. She took wrong turns here and there, and walked into stairwell hallways instead of real ones. This may sound like a typical first day for freshman Blazers, but Garcia is a transfer student and this is her senior year.


New cell phone policy introduced

The Blair administration will take part in an initiative to expand cell phone use in school for the upcoming academic year. The program, which was piloted at 10 other Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) last year, allows students to use cell phones before and after the school day, and during their lunch periods. The policy was proposed at a countywide principal's meeting where principals from all 26 MCPS high schools signed on to the initiative after it received support from Student Government Association (SGA) members and Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) participants at the Instructional Leadership Team retreat in July.

On May 23, a panel comprised of cluster superintendent Bronda Mills, parents, teachers, students and administrators selected current Takoma Park Middle School principal Renay Johnson to be Blair's next principal.
