Gymnastics shows out for senior night

In its last home meet of the season, Blair gymnastics fought hard and placed second behind B-CC, with Blake finishing third. The Blazers prepared posters and roses for senior night which celebrated Sidney Smith, Kayla McCaw and Rachel Robey as well as the team's manager, Pilar Ocampo.

With a new coach by their side and three strong captains along with many new team members, the Blazers gymnastics team came out with the drive to win last night, and that's exactly what they did.


Gymnastics snags second on Senior Night

After finishing first in the last two competitions, the girls' varsity gymnastics team(4-2) lost to the Bethesda-Chevy Chase (B-CC) Barons (6-1) but defeated the Whitman Vikings (3-4). The competition was determined by narrow margins, B-CC finishing with 163.65 points to the Blazers 159.85 and the Vikings 152. Despite the defeat, the crowd remained celebratory, cheering on the five senior gymnasts performing in their last home three-way meet.


Gymnastics vaults to victory against Springbrook and Sherwood

Blair's girls varsity gymnastics team, reigning state champions, (3-1) continued their winning streak Thursday night with a victory over the Springbrook Blue Devils (0-4) and the Sherwood Warriors (3-2). Despite missing their two highest level gymnasts, Katie Pohlman and CiCi Bergman, who are both training for state gymnastic competitions, the team received first place, scoring 152.5 points compared to Sherwood's 139.4 and Springbrook's 95.7. Though the lead scorer was from Sherwood, second, third and fourth place were captured by Blazers.

The Blair gymnastics team placed second in the county competition with a score of 169.975, which allows them to move on to compete in the state championship.


Blair gymnastics overpower Vikings and Wildcats

On the gymnasts' senior night, the Lady Blazers (2-1) entered the tri-meet with skill and focus which allowed the them to defeat the Whitman Vikings and Walter Johnson Wildcats by a score of 159.4-152.1-146.05 respectively.

In their first home meet of the season, Blair gymnastics (1,1) executed each event with strength and focus, soundly defeating the Gaithersburg Trojans by a score of 148-83.7.


Blair gymnastics leaps over Gaithersburg and Springbrook

On their senior night, Blair gymnasts swept the floor with focused technique and clean execution, achieving an all-around score of 167.4 over Gaithersburg's 101.4 and Springbrook's 89.75. After placing first at state championships last year, sophomore Sophie Sidell returned for her first meet of the season to place first with an all-around score of 36.95. Senior Anna Hadfield took third with a 35.45, sophomore Taylor Smith ranked fourth with a 33.7 and senior Abby Cember placed fifth with a 32.1.


Walter Johnson sneaks past Blair gymnastics

In a close meet Thursday, Blair gymnastics fell slightly short of Walter Johnson 159.6 to 156.5, as senior Anna Hadfield placed second on bars and third on vault while sophomore Taylor Smith ranked third on both bars and beam. In the all-around score, Hadfield took third, Smith placed and senior Abby Cember ranked sixth.
