Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett drafted a youth curfew bill in July. The curfew would prevent youth under 18 from being out between midnight and 5am on weekends.
The proposal to enact a teen curfew in Montgomery County is being revised by the County Council's Public Safety Committee and will be submitted for a vote this November.
Although the opposition to the proposed curfew bill may be justified, parents must acknowledge that they are partly at fault for the issue at the heart of the proposal: a lack of control over their children.
On July 26, the Montgomery County Council held a hearing on Expedited Bill 25-11, also known as the Curfew Bill. The bill that would give minors under the age of 18 a curfew of 11 p.m. on weekdays and 12 a.m. on weekends.
