XC splits results

The Cross Country teams continued to move in opposite directions as they ran their last Quad meet of the season. The girls' team beat two out of their three competitors, and the boys lost to all three of theirs. The girls improved their record to 7-2, while the boys continued their losing streak and fell to 2-7. The competition included Churchill, Damascus, and Gaithersburg.

Sophomores Halsey Sinclair and Ashlyn Sinclair continued their dominance this season with finishes of first and second respectively at today's meet. Halsey ran the race in 18:48, and her sister was close behind with a time of 19:18.

Not only did the top two girls run well today, but the entire girls' team improved. After the meet Coach Carl Lewin stated that "as the season progresses, I am only more impressed by the girls' team. They certainly have a chance to qualify for states with their record."

The boys' team ran well, but against a competitive field was unable to come away with a victory. The boys lost to Gaithersburg 45-15, Churchill 45-19 and Damascus 29-27. A positive aspect of the meet was that the entire varsity team finished the race in less than 20 minutes. Sophomore Josh Uzzell lead the team with a time of 17:55.

Both of the teams are unusually young and many of the runners are poised for improvement. The majority of the boys' varsity team, four of the seven top finishers in the race, were underclassmen. "Both of the teams are doing very well," Coach Lewin said. "The boys' team will only get better in the next weeks, but should be much more competitive next year."

The girls are also expected to improve as the year progresses. Halsey was only three seconds off her county meet time from last year, which was run on the same course as today's meet. Ashlyn was 25 seconds away from her time last year.

Cross Country's next meet is on Oct. 16 at Georgetown Prep Invitational. The competition should start around 11:00 a.m.
