Boys' tennis loses to Walter Johnson 5-2

The boys' tennis team faced Walter Johnson today and lost 2-5. The Blazers expected difficulty in facing the county's top ranked team but got more than they could handle. Again, Blair's doubles teams held their grounds and won notable victories for the team.

The hard work the Blazer singles players put into the match today were to no avail. Although their overall playing was controlled and consistent, the Blazers were overcome by the powerful serves and killer volleys of the Wildcats, according to senior singles player Michael Price.

Many Blazers had anticipated a struggle with the Wildcats. Senior singles player Jason Liu said that inconsistent practices hurt the teams performance, but he, none-the-less, "expected better" of the Blazers today. And although Andy Jiang admitted that his confidence probably won him the match today, he thought that some other players were timid "perhaps because the Walter Johnson team seemed intimidating and they are undefeated and what not."

Liu's losing sets of 6-2, 6-1 were matched almost identically by Price's 6-1, 6-1 and senior singles player Gordon Su's 6-0, 6-2. But the doubles teams of Eric Su with Max Gibiansky and Andy Jiang with Michael Tsai created wins of 7-6, 7-6 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively, which created a large discrepancy in the levels of performance from players of both teams.

The next match is on April 30 at home against Watkins Mill.
