When the Ex-factor strikes back

After relationships have soured, vengeful former lovers take justice into their own hands

Senior Cecilia Recinos and her boyfriend have both been cheated on in past relationships. But unlike Recinos, who believes that her cheating ex will "get what he deserves later," Recinos' boyfriend—a student at Blake High School—decided to take a different path. He got revenge.

After his unfaithful ex started going out with someone else, Recinos' boyfriend egged the new boyfriend's house, according to Recinos. He also set off fireworks in the middle of the night in his ex's backyard. Recinos also says that her boyfriend talks about wanting to go to his ex's house to cut her cables, slash her tires and write all over her white car with black permanent marker.

Revenge is no stranger to many Blazers. Although they may not resort to as extreme measures as physical destruction, these venomous jilted lovers still have a few tricks up their sleeves when it comes to getting their retribution.

Revenge-getter 1: Beat him at his own game

Blazers like sophomore Zoraida Alvarez use the if-you-can't-beat-them-join-them philosophy in getting back at their exes. Alas, after a three-month relationship, Alvarez's boyfriend was a playa, and after they broke up he went out with her friend. When Alvarez learned of her ex's misdeeds, she got back at him by giving him a taste of his own medicine. "I said I wanted to be with him and stuff, even though I hated him," she says with a mischievous grin. "We started going out again, and when he really liked me, I dumped him."

A definite plus to this revenge-getting technique is that it yields no shame. After all, it's only fair to do unto others as others did unto you. Alvarez certainly felt no guilt. "I was laughing," she exclaims.

Revenge-getter 2: Flaunt that newfound freedom

"Oh yeah! Hook-up revenge!" exclaims senior Carla Smith, who is no stranger to this practice. Smith says that the glory of hooking up with a new love interest shortly after breaking up with an old one is you can show off the fact that you are perfectly fine by yourself.

This is especially true if your ex is a bit lacking in the physical-attractiveness department. "If you [broke up] with an average guy, then if you hook up with a hot guy it's like, ‘Yeah! I get to hook up with the hottest guy here, so take that!'" explains Smith. "That's always a fun feeling."

For the person on the other side of the revenge, though, the joke is not always so funny. Many Blazers, like senior Ante Haskins, feel the pain that comes when their exes pursue those other fish in the sea.

But, like Pepcid-AC, Haskins and other bloodthirsty exes go right to the heart of matters. "When I found the girl [my ex] was messing with, I told her a whole bunch of nasty stuff we had done together," Haskins explains. Haskins says her boyfriend's new girl seemed shocked and later broke up with him.

Revenge-getter 3: Give the treat of a five-course meal

Expense never stopped senior Andrew Benton from pulling his prank. He decided to stick his ex, senior Sonya Schwab, with the bill.

Schwab was having a birthday party for one of her friends, and although Benton was invited, Schwab says she made it clear he was not welcome. "I told a friend beforehand to tell him that I didn't want him in my house," Schwab explains. "Any person with half a brain would know not to come."

But half-brained Benton did. After all, he says, he had a right to celebrate the mutual friend's birthday. Schwab promptly threw him out, and after plotting a while with his friends, Benton decided to get revenge by ordering a bunch of food and having it delivered to Schwab's house. So he ordered five pizzas. Then 20 egg rolls from a Chinese restaurant. Then the ten most expensive items on the Chinese menu. Then five more pizzas.

The pizzas never came, but the Chinese food did. It came and came and came and came. Nearly $100 of it. Schwab says she and her friends looked at the food and broke out into laughter. But the Chinese restaurant wasn't sharing in the amusement when Schwab also refused to pay.

Back at school on Monday, Benton didn't wanted Schwab to find out he was the culprit. "I didn't want to be castrated," he explains.

But she inevitably discovered his plotting. Needless to say, Schwab says she and her friends now refer to Benton as "The Enemy" when they see him in the halls.

Although Schwab says that she will never "stoop to Andrew's level" and take revenge back on him, Benton remains hopeful.

"She doesn't have much of a mind for it," admits Benton. "But I would be glad if she pulled a prank on me. We could start a feud, like Family Feud. That would be fun."
