OCTOBER 29, NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM-

In the last game of the regular season, the girls' volleyball team invoked past habits of miscommunication and lack of enthusiasm to lose to Wootton High School in three games with scores of 6-15, 11-15 and 3-15 and seal its regular season record at 7-6.

Wootton's Jessica Puckett challenged the Blazers the whole match with fast and well-placed spikes, leading the Patriots to a quick victory in the first game. Blair also had distinct age and experience disadvantages, claiming only two seniors to Wootton's eight.

The Blazers did not seem to awaken until the 55-serve second game, when they kept the score nearly even until a spike by Wootton's Angela Ludema with the score tied at 11-11 dropped in for the last sideout of the game and propelled Wootton to four consecutive points for the win. Her unusually quick delivery consistently frustrated Blair's defense.

This loss followed an encouraging victory over Northwest High School, who ranked third for the upcoming tournament in the Class 3A West division. According to Coach Jamie Franck, the Blazers exhibited all the characteristics they need to do well in their own Class 4A West division tournament. "When we played Northwest there was fire in their eyes," he said.

Blair ranked seventh and will play tenth-ranked Watkins Mill High School in the first round of the tournament this Friday, November 2. If successful they will proceed on November 5 to another match against Wootton, who received a bye in the first round because they ranked second.
