Varsity baseball takes the field

The varsity baseball team is ready to kick off their 2005 season after ending with a winning 13-9 record last year. The boys' first game will be March 21 at home at 3:30 p.m. against Einstein, typically a weaker team.

Coach John MacDonald feels that the outlook for the season is very good, with strong juniors, seniors and sophomores, including two sophomore starters, Dylan Rebois and Adam Kopp. "I'm always optimistic about the season," said MacDonald.

The crucial part of the season, according to MacDonald, will be keeping Blair's relatively small roster injury-free so that the team can remain strong throughout the grueling season against tough opponents. "The key to the season will be to stay healthy. If we stay healthy we will be competitive," he said.

Many of Blair's players will contribute both leadership and physical skills to the team. Among the team's biggest contributors will be senior captain and outfielder Justin Roman as well as junior outfielder/pitcher Tommy Dugan, also a captain. In addition, senior third-baseman Chris Madert, the team's current leader in hitting, will add much to Blair's offensive efforts. Senior Cody Simson (left-handed pitcher), will also be "extremely vital to the success of the team," according to MacDonald.

Having many talented younger players on the team will give the squad depth this season as well as provide security for future years. Rebois will start this season as a shortstop, and Kopp, a second-string left-handed-pitcher, will play first base when not on the mound.
