Girls' lacrosse defeats Gaithersburg 16-3

After a sloppy start, the Blair's girls' lacrosse pulled together as a team and beat the Gaithersburg Hornets 16-3 tonight.

Seven different Blazers contributed goals on Blair's offense, led by senior co-captain Mairead Hunter with 5 goals and two assists.

According to Coach Mike Horne, the Blazers had many "really good end-to-end transitions" which created scoring numerous scoring opportunities.

Blair utilized smart passes to move the ball quickly up the field. Halfway through the second half, Hunter scooped up a loose ball at half field and dished it out to sophomore Kiran Belani in front of the goal who easily put the ball in the net for Blair's 13th goal of the night. This was one of many quick assists off transitions that led to goals for Blair.

However, at the start of the game, Blair's level of play was a long shot away from their second half performance. Blazers failed to communicate and fought with teammates over ground balls. Lack of communication has been an ongoing problem throughout the season.

But before long, the Blazers pulled themselves together, gained control of the game and did not look back.

Blair's lead allowed Horne to play every player on the team who was not injured. "We got the opportunity to try out some of our younger players and take a look at the future of our program."

The Blazers next play the Magruder Colonels on Monday, May 3 at 7:00pm at Magruder.
