Blazers have final say in game decisive plays

APRIL 29, BLAZER STADIUM—

The Blair boys' lacrosse team is a second half team. They are consistently sloppy in the first half, and fundamentally sound in the second, as was the case in yesterday's 12-9 win over the Trojans of Gaithersburg.

The Blazers came back with accurate transition passes, speed in the midfield, strong stick skills, and smart shots in the second half after being behind 5-7, proving they were the superior team on the field. While they have had numerous problems and missed opportunities this season with team play, yesterday's effort win was due in large part to communication on the field and cooperation between offense and defense.

The team play and aggressiveness of the Blazers in the second half boosted their stats far beyond those of the Trojans. The Blazers finished the game with 64 picked up ground balls in comparison to the Trojans 34. And the Blazers put 31 shots on the net getting 12 in while the Trojans shot 34 and only got nine goals total in the game.

A number of boys stepped up in yesterday's game ensuring Blazer success. Junior co-captain Erik Kojola led the defense, making numerous checks and steals and finishing with 10 ground balls. On offense, lead scorer and senior co-captain Josh Gottlieb-Miller led the team with 6 goals and 11 offensive ground balls. Junior goalie Andrew Helgeson finished the game with 21 saves.

Blair's next game is on the road on May 3 against Magruder at 7:00 PM.
