Blazers talk about their favorite songs for the season
As fall is upon us, Blair students walk to school through satisfyingly crunchy leaves wearing comfy sweaters, warm scarves and their fuzziest socks, we all wonder, “What music is coming from those AirPods?” I took it upon myself to answer this crucial question by asking Blazers to share the highlight of their current playlists.
Blazers listed a wide variety of songs—oldies, recent releases, songs in foreign languages, songs to get pumped to and songs meant for relaxation. Our compiled playlist reflects the diverse tastes in music among students at Blair.
“JoHn Muir” by ScHoolboy Q
“I’ve been listening to the album ‘Blank Face,’” senior Adam Falcigno said. “And that’s definitely my favorite song on the album.” ScHoolboy Q’s is a rapper whose music is upbeat and perfect for getting in a good mood on a rainy fall day.
“Mr Brightside” by The Killers
This is an emotional rock song by The Killers that was released in 2004. “I like music that I can listen to while I work,” sophomore Roshan Nandkumar said when asked what he looked for in a good fall song. He said that “Mr. Brightside” was one of those songs.
“Love Me” by Lil Tecca
“Lil Tecca is up and coming and everybody knows him now,” freshman Sarbani Poulson said. “When I started listening to his stuff, I found that this was my favorite song.” “Love Me” is a mellow rap song and the perfect addition to a chill playlist.
“5 Minutes Avec Toi” by Amir
Amir is a French-Israli pop singer whose 2017 song is a lighthearted listen. “I like listening to songs in different languages, especially if I’m learning the language,” junior Maren Gibb said. “It helps me learn and it’s fun to listen to what people are listening to in other countries.”
“9 to 5” by Dolly Parton
“I like ‘9 to 5’ because it’s a really uplifting song which is perfect for fall,” junior Raquel Sklar said. Released in 1980, “9 to 5” was written for the movie of the same name and ended up being one of Dolly Parton’s most successful songs.
“Money” by Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd is a British rock band that pioneered rock-and-roll in the 1960s. “Money” is a groovy, upbeat song. “It’s an awesome song and I really like older rock-and-roll so it’s part of my playlist,” freshman Chloe Farber said.
“Hey Hey” by Eric Clapton
“It’s a very good album. It signifies a pivotal time in Clapton’s life where his wife had just left him and son had just died and he is very depressed,” junior Natan Kimmelan-Block said. “It’s a very meaningful album and thus I listen to it.” Eric Clapton’s music is slow and relaxing and represents classic rock from the 90s.
“Drop the Guillotine” by Peach Pit
Peach Pit is an indie-pop band with chill, funky music. “It’s very relaxing to listen to,” sophomore Maybelle Patterson said. When asked what she looks for in a good fall song, she pointed to music that is “not high energy and relaxing.”
