Renovation of area mall is expected to attract new customers

Wheaton Plaza is currently undergoing renovations to introduce approximately 50 new stores and three new restaurants by March 2005.

Downtown Locker Room, Express, Express Men and Macy's are the only stores being announced as additions to the plaza. The food court will be moved upstairs and changes to the shopping plaza include more skylights in the ceiling. "People sometimes think it's not safe so with more light people may feel more comfortable," said Nicole Murray of the Mall Management Office.

The $95 million renovations are expected to attract new customers. There will be "more upscale retail so that will bring in a different crowd," said Murray. "Some people have been coming [to Wheaton Plaza] for years," added Murray, and she expects they will come back.
