Students arrested for drug possession

Police apprehended three juniors after security officials found the group to be in possession of marijuana shortly after 5B lunch on June 4. The students were subsequently brought into the main office and arrested, according to an unnamed source who was in the office at the time.

Originally pursued by security guards for skipping, four students were stopped just outside of the school building where they were searched, according to one of the students. Three of them were found in possession of drugs as a result of the search and arrested. The student who was not arrested was suspended for the remainder of the year for involvement in the incident.

Security guard Everett Campbell Jr. reported that the students will likely be charged with possession of marijuana as well as the "intent to distribute." The current MCPS discipline policy states that students found in possession of intoxicants on school property face suspension and a police referral as the minimum punishment while the distribution of intoxicants results in an automatic expulsion.
 
Montgomery County school officials have called at least one of the arrested students to a hearing on Tuesday, June 15. The hearing will first ascertain whether the students intended to distribute the marijuana before making any punitive decisions. According to one of the arrested students, the police will take no further disciplinary action in the matter.
 
As a result of the incident, the four students were suspended for the remainder of the year. Administrators have frozen their grades and excused them from their exams, according to one of the arrested students.
