Damages significant, but nobody injured

Senior Phuson Hulamm's car was hit Tuesday, Oct. 5 by a parent dropping a student off in the student parking lot. Damage to Hulamm's car was significant, but nobody was hurt in the accident.

The event occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. when Hulamm was entering his parking space, along the 300s lane, according to Hulamm. After glancing in his rear mirror, Hulamm swung right and then sharply turned left into the space, he explained. A car that had been approximately 10-15 feet behind him accelerated and hit him directly on the driver's side of his car, he said.

The accident resulted in damage to Hulamm's car's left side. "My door is pretty dented and scratched up," he said. According to Hulamm, the parent's car was only slightly damaged. "There were some minor scratches, but I thought it looked fine."

Although parents are not allowed to drop students off in the student parking lot, they still do, according to Security Assistant Everett Campbell. "It happens, and we're doing the best we can with limited resources," he explained. "[Unfortunately], it's the easiest place for parents to drop their kids off."
