The Blair spirit club has raised $1000 from its benefit to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The club will present the money in December.

Make-A Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic, Inc. fulfills the wishes of children battling life-threatening illnesses to enrich the "human experience with hope, strength, and joy."

According to the spirit club sponsor, Susan Madden, the club began collecting money at the beginning of the school year. Money was donated during Back to School Night, lunch periods, and sports games. The club's goal was to collect $3,000. "How ever many students there are, is how much money we want," Madden said.

Although spirit club did not meet its original goal, Madden remains hopeful. The club plans to make a tradition of the benefit. The club is still searching for a way to get students interested about the fundraiser. "I think it's a worthwhile cause that I wish other people would get excited about," Madden says.

Much of the money was raised from the profit of spirit packages and donations from parents. The club sold the spirit packs for $5 and was planning to donate one dollar to Make-A-Wish for every sale, however the club ended up giving the foundation four dollars and keeping one.

Madden says the club will begin accepting contributions again in February 2003. Be sure to look for the spirit club's donation bottle in the library.
