Developmental meet goes well for Blair

DEC. 13, PG SPORTSPLEX-

Blair Indoor Track performed well in the MCPS Developmental meet held at PG Sportsplex on Saturday, December 13. Although official times were not taken and teams were not ranked, the team competed in many events to prepare for the first timed meet on January 10.

Blair competed in several different distances, including the 55m, 300m, 800m, 4x800m, one mile, and the two mile. However, according to head coach Carl Lewin, "this was a developmental meet; the first meet with scores will be January 10."

Representing Blair in the 55m were juniors Narique Dixon and Michael Wright; seniors Sekou Kourouma, James Dwight and Nicole Gray; and freshman Aaron Townsend. Dixon and Kourouma also competed in the 300m.

Freshmen Ashlyn Sinclair and Keianna Dixon both ran the 800m and the one mile. Junior Alan Bateman also ran the one mile. Blair's long-distance runners included seniors Matt Sheldon and Esey Kidane; along with junior Anthony Glynn on the 4x800m. Kidane also ran in the two mile race.

Although Lewin did not believe any one runner stood out tonight, he felt that Sinclair performed well in her two races. "Ashlyn's times were pretty decent," said Lewin.

Lewin is very optimistic about future meets for the indoor track team. "Everyone's coming along well," he said thoughtfully.

However, Lewin does not believe he will have an accurate picture of what the team needs to do to improve until they compete in their first official meet with times, scores, and real competition. "We'll really have a gauge on things January 10, but right now everyone's doing pretty well," he said.

Blair's first meet on December 5 was cancelled due to weather conditions. The next two meets, the Montgomery Invitational and the MCPS Championship, will be held on January 10 and January 24, respectively.
