Blair boasts three more than last year's competition
Six Blair seniors were selected as regional semifinalists in the annual Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology. Regional finalists will be announced on Oct. 30.
The Oct. 20 announcement named Andrew Durnford, Jeffrey Guo, Rachel Lee, Victoria Yao, Allen Zhang and Wenjia Zhu among the 11 semifinalists selected from Maryland.
The Siemens Competition, designed to recognize high school students from the United States and abroad who demonstrate exceptional work in extracurricular research projects, selects up to 300 projects each year as regional semifinalists.
On Oct. 30, 30 individuals and 30 teams from this pool will be named as regional finalists. This group of regional finalists presents their research at a convention hosted by one of six universities working in collaboration with the Siemens Foundation. If any of Blair's semifinalists are chosen as regional finalists, they will present a poster and give an oral explanation of their research at Carnegie Mellon University on Nov. 17 and 18, along with the other finalists from the Middle States Region. Blair will also receive $2,000 for every regional finalist it produces to fund its science, math and technology programs.
All of the Blazers chosen as semifinalists this year are enrolled in the Magnet program, and they conducted their research as a part of a Magnet senior research project class.
Last year, Blair had three semifinalists in the same competition.
