SilverStyle: Blazers head back to school

SilverStyle is a weekly blog focusing on fashion and beauty both in and outside of Blair. Come back next Wednesday for the next edition of SilverStyle.

Let's be real, everyone starts off the first week of school with their hair done, nails done and best outfits on display for their peers to see. Many seniors only made it through the first day with their best apparel and couldn't care less about the following days due to an overwhelming outburst of senioritis. But hey, Blazers still came back to school shining in their outfits! Three trends specifically stood out in the past week, and we can help you pull them off.

DIY Denim(especially in this economy)

Bored of paying double the price for a couple of inches of denim? Try cutting and styling them on your own! Photo courtesy of Best Fan.

Many students took on some Do It Yourself (DIY) projects this summer and found that they didn't need to buy clothes that were distressed, studded, or bleached because they could just do it themselves at a cheaper price. Both male and female students did this, and high-waisted shorts were definitely the starting canvas for many female student creations. Not only does this save a lot of money, it also makes it possible for students to customize their outfits to look exactly the way they want them to. Have no idea how to bleach, stud, distress, or anything else with your outfits? Have no fear, simply search "DIY denim" on YouTube and let the fun begin.

Don't be afraid to Ombre whatever you want, whenever you want. Photo courtesy of Denim Refinery .

Ombre Everything
Prints are out, and Ombre is in. If you look around Blair Boulevard, you'll notice many girls' hair starts out a dark color and then gradually changes to a lighter color. No, they did not epically fail at dying their hair, but instead they're "hip” to the Ombre trend! This look is super cute for everyone and can even apply to males for clothes. Many male students have been seen wearing denim shirts that gradually change to a white, bleached out color. It's definitely a different look for the season, and we definitely love it!

Apparently Blazers love having the power to tell what the time is. Many students came back into the school year with flashy new watches, some even costing more than $300, to outshine the classroom clocks. Watches can be a cute, simple accessory that can add the finishing touch to any outfit (ever felt like your wrists were just naked?), or could be the entire outfit (a simple black dress with an all-gold watch? I think yes!). Some common brands seen throughout Blair Boulevard are Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Armani Exchange. Whether it's a simple band or a face that is bigger than your head, watches are the statement accessory of the season.

However you decide to dress at Blair, just remember to be yourself. That's the only way to stand out from 3,000 kids! But If you need some inspiration for outfits, try one of these back to school trends out and let us know what you think.
