Silver Quill recognized by national literary organization

Silver Quill, Blair's literary magazine, was awarded the highest honor possible for student-produced literary magazines by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) for their 2004 publication.

Submitted magazines were reviewed for literary content, variety and editing, as well as for overall design and graphics, according to the NCTE website.

Ninety-five of the 461 submitted entries from last year were honored. Submissions included publications from middle, junior high, and high schools across the country. Two other magazines from Maryland were given the award.

Silver Quill is pleased with the results. "Everyone is really happy about it. Every time we win something we have a boost of morale," explained senior Wilma Bainbridge, the editor-in-chief.

This is the first year Silver Quill has entered the NCTE competition, but it has previously received recognition from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association as well as from the American Scholastic Press Association.
