Countywide drive fosters learning among younger children
The SGA and Media Center are sponsoring a children's book drive through April 7 that will benefit kids enrolled in Summer Adventures in Learning (SAIL). Collection boxes for gently used children's books are located in the Media Center, Career Center, counseling office and ESOL academic support rooms.
Coordinated by media specialist Andrea Lamphier, senior Mona Boursiquot and junior Jordyn Wolfand of the SGA, this Blair drive is one part of a larger effort to collect books on behalf of the Montgomery County Public Schools Retirees Association. The drive is being incorporated into the ongoing SGA's Four Corners at Blair.
According to Wolfand, the books will be sorted into four categories: picture books, early readers, chapter books and reference/non-fiction books. "However," she added, "We're also accepting other types of books that will directly benefit our Media Center."
Wolfand also said that this drive is an effort by the SGA to give back to the community. Other community outreach projects in the SGA's charity efforts include a community service day and a workshop in which participants can make cards to send to patients at the Children's Inn at the National Institutes of Health.
