Treat yourself to the Valentine's Day you've always deserved

For those in love, Valentine's Day is a time to embrace your relationship and reflect on all the reasons why you love one another. But for some of us single people, there's no better holiday to get us bummed out about being alone. Even if you're not doing that great in the romance department this year, that doesn't mean you can't go out and enjoy yourself! Whether you just got out of a relationship, have never been in one, or anything in between, here are seven fun ways to celebrate the true meaning of what Valentine's Day is all about: love - without the depressing downside or significant other.

1) Watch a Movie starring Your Celebrity Crush

Are you a fan of Dylan O'Brien? Leonardo DiCaprio? Mila Kunis? Jennifer Lawrence? Cuddle up with a warm fuzzy blanket, sit back, and relax with one of your favorite actor's movies. Enjoy some quality time with none other than your true (movie star) love. Regarding munchies for the show, order in a large heart-shaped pizza for one and don't forget to bring your favorite seasonal assorted chocolates to the party.

2) Fall in Love with Something New

If it's the yoga class you've been dying to take, a new recipe you've been meaning to make, or the New Year's resolution to hit the gym that you never got around to, now is the perfect time to start. Challenge yourself to something you have never done before, or something that you haven't been able to do because of your busy schedule.

3) Unplug for the Day

Ever get sick of seeing the same old happy couple posts when you refresh your Instagram or Snapchat feed? Try taking a day off from social media. Some digital downtime can help you unplug for a couple hours and maybe you'll even forget it was a holiday in the first place. After all, we all need to get unhooked from those small addictive boxes, even if it's just for a day.

4) Put Yourself Out There

After all, it is Valentine's Day. What better time to shoot your shot for that special person you've had your eye on since the 8th grade? Forget about waiting for that person to hit you up and quit awkwardly staring at them from across the room. You never know, you might just find yourself a new Valentine's Day bae.

5) Celebrate Galentine's Day

Get the squad together for a special ladies night. It could be relaxing with face masks or doing a fun Secret Valentine - like a Valentine's Day themed gift exchange. Spending time with the people you care about is a great way to unwind.

6) Send Gifts to those Closest to You

Send a candy gram or cute Valentine's Day card to some of your best friends, family, or maybe those not that close to you, like your bus driver who drives you to school every morning. Just go crazy, and buy yourself one, or two, or maybe three. Soon the joy from the pile of presents that you buy yourself will make up for your loneliness. Just be careful not to do this too much because otherwise you'll really start to feel the pain of your loneliness and your credit card bill *yikes*.

7) Be Your Own Valentine

Treat yourself to a spa day, post a selfie, binge-eat your favorite junk food, or drop some cash on clothes. If you don't want to spend money because you know more than anyone that money can't buy happiness, you can always draw yourself a soothing warm bath, sprinkle it with aromal rose petals, light a couple candles, and de-stress with your favorite song. Whatever it is, no one knows exactly what you like better than you do. Even the most perfect partner can't love you more than you love yourself, so be sure to enjoy a relaxing, quiet evening with that one person who can always make you happy: you.
