F. Scott Fitzgerald award winner is Chips' own

Blair senior and Silver Chips Online Editor-in-Chief Katherine Zhang was recently awarded First Place for her entry in the F. Scott Fitzgerald Short Story Contest for high-school students. Submissions were original, previously unpublished stories written by high-school students.

Zhang based her submission, entitled "Fourth Symphony," on the theme of Tchaikovsky's "Fourth Symphony." Her story is about a violinist who dreams of being a concertmaster in the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. When arthritis challenges this dream, the violinist passes on her hopes to her protégé.

As the First Prize winner, Zhang was awarded $250 and the chance to speak before local literary figures at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary Conference to be held at Montgomery College's Rockville campus on Oct. 23.
