Senior Julie Chiplis was awarded honorable mention in the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts (NFAA) art competition.
Chiplis, who attends the Montgomery County Public Schools Visual Art Center (V.A.C) at Einstein, was praised for her paintings. V.A.C is a rigorous program that, according to a V.A.C press release, provides "an intensive honors level curriculum in visual art with an emphasis on two-dimensional processes with a strong foundation in art history."
Chiplis submitted ten pieces of work from her portfolio. A press release describing the winning artwork said, "Her award winning portfolio includes a series of large-industrial landscape paintings."
Chiplis competed against more than 6500 other high school seniors across the country. She received a cash prize along with her honorable mention award. Chiplis said she felt "very honored to win." She plans to attend an art college next year to pursue her artistic talent.
Two V.A.C seniors, Kevin Lee and Max Chavez, were selected as
finalists. They were the only finalists in Maryland.
