Project to help building services

Senior class officers are launching a hallway cleanup activity for students to pick up trash in the SAC after 5 lunch. The program will commence Monday, Dec. 13.

According to Senior Class President Alejandra Barberena, students must sign up through the SGA to participate. The first two weeks of the program will be for seniors only. "I wanted seniors to be first as a role model, and then I'm going to try to involve clubs, teams, and other classes," she said.

The event was developed as a project to help the building service staff. "It's sad how you see the [building service] always cleaning up and we just don't throw our trash away. It's out of control, and we now have a mice and roach situation," said Barberena.

Building Service staff is pleased with the students' effort. "They will see how much work we have to do in cleaning up behind the kids. I think it's fantastic," said Building Service manager Quentin Middleton.

Students can earn community service hours for time spent cleaning up. There will also be raffles held for prizes from local stores and restaurants in downtown Silver Spring, according to Barberena.

Students should contact the SGA or senior class officers for more information.
