Girls end 7-2, Boys end 2-7

Over the fall 2004 season, both of the cross-country teams showed promise. Sophomores Halsey Sinclair and Ashlyn Sinclair anchored the girls' team, while sophomore Josh Uzzell and senior captain Alan Bateman led the boys' team. The girls' and boys' teams had records of 7-2 and 2-7 respectively at the end of the season. Coach Carl Lewin said these teams both did very well but believed they will do even better next year.

The girls this year had a great season, with the Sinclair sisters running extremely well, finishing 1st and 2nd in many of the meets. Halsey Sinclair set multiple course records this year, including one at the County Championships when she ran 18:28, more than 15 seconds better than her time of 18:45 last year. Halsey Sinclair finished 1st at the meet, but her sister was not far behind with her 4th place finish. The girls' team did extremely well at the County Championships, finishing 7th out of 17 teams. The boys' team was respectable at the County Championships, finishing 14th out of 23 teams.

At the Regional Championships, the girls' team was tied with Walter Johnson for 7th place at the end of the race, but in the event of a tie the draw is decided by the time of the 6th runner. Walter Johnson had a better time and thus proceeded onto the State Championships, while Blair did not advance. The girls had several good times with Halsey finishing 1st with a time of 19:15, while her sister ran a 20:06 and finished in 4th place. The boys' team placed 11th out of 14 teams, but ran extremely well "even though the course had been ruined by the rain,” said Lewin. Uzzell ran a time of 19:05, but finished 43rd overall.

The boys' showed great promise this year and as "a young team should continue to develop for next season,” said Lewin. Both of the teams had a young core of runners who should be able to lead the teams next year. Lewin said at the end of the season, "this team has a chance to reach a great level next year.”
