The Blair Science Bowl team took fourth place in the 2004 National Science Bowl at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase on May 3.

Seniors John Shen, Stanley Wang, Ning Bao and Anran Wang and junior Randy Li competed against 64 other teams from around the country. They received $1,000 for Blair's science department and a scientific calculator for each participant.

The competition commenced on April 29, beginning with tours of the capital and sightseeing for out-of-state teams. Teams attended seminars with famous speakers who gave lectures on advanced math and science, according to Li.

Blair was the only Maryland representative at the competition. The team took first place at the Maryland Regional Science Bowl competition on Feb. 28.

The actual competition took place during May 2 and 3. On May 3, Thomas Jefferson High School of Alexandria, Virginia took first place for the third consecutive year. Second and third place went to Texas A&M Consolidated High School of College Station, TX and Baton Rouge of Baton Rouge, LA, respectively.

Next year, Blair is looking forward to competing in the regional competition and hopefully nationals, according to Li.

Tryouts to replace the four graduating seniors will possibly be held later this year.
