Citrus sale donations profit PTSA and Shepherd's Table

Due to unprecedented purchases in this year's citrus sale, the PTSA surpassed its fundraising goal and donated 2,500 pounds of fresh fruit to Shepherd's Table, a local homeless assistance center.

According to PTSA Citrus Co-Chair Carol Lindeman, the PTSA raised approximately $7,000 in profits when their goal had been $6,000. Last year $5,700 was gained from the sale and only unsold fruits were given to Shepherd's Table. This year the PTSA added a line to the order form that allowed people to donate a specified, paid-for number of boxes to Shepherd's Table. There were 129 boxes donated through the fundraiser. This number came as a surprise to PTSA Citrus Co-Chair Chris Simpson, who estimated that only 20 to 25 boxes would be given. Lindeman praised the parent volunteers who were responsible for the operation and transportation of the donations.

Shepherd's Table helps the homeless with services ranging from providing food to writing shelter referrals. More information on Shepherd's Table can be found here.
