Game has not occurred since 2001

This year's powderpuff football game, originally scheduled for Oct. 26, has been cancelled after several attempts to reschedule, according to senior Sayoh Mansaray, President of the Senior Class Council in the SGA.

This year's game, where junior and senior girls play flag football, while junior and senior boys cheerlead, was rescheduled initially because of rain. Before the new date, Nov. 2, there was confusion as to whether the junior girls had formed a team or not. That game was cancelled last week and Mansaray and Rondai Ravilious, staff advisor of the SGA, decided that because homecoming was several weeks ago, there was no more point to the game, which is linked to spirit week, according to Mansaray.

Teams might be formed to play in a game during spirit week in the spring, Mansaray said.

The powderpuff football game is a version of football that is a tradition in many colleges and has been adopted by many high schools. Blair has not been able to successfully schedule this event for the past three years.

Last year, the powderpuff game was scheduled to take place on Oct. 5 but was cancelled because of poor organization, according to a Silver Chips Online article. The game was rescheduled for Oct. 19, but was not actually held.

In 2003, the game was scheduled for Oct. 22 but was twice postponed before being cancelled, according to a Silver Chips Online article. The game had been cancelled the year before because of outdoor activity cancellations due to precautions made during the time of the sniper attacks, according to a Silver Chips Online article.

The last powderpuff game held was in 2001, where the senior class of 2002 beat the juniors with the score of 6-0, according to a Silver Chips Online article.
