Wreslting team suffers fifth loss of the season

Jan 14, POOLESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL-

Blair's wrestling team suffered its fourth loss of the season against Poolesville in a 35-42 defeat. In the process, a Blair wrestler was injured, leaving yet another unfilled weightclass.

Throughout the match, Blair and Poolesville were neck and neck, with neither team ever achieving a lead of more than twelve points. By the last pairing, Blair found itself behind by only four points, and a pin away from victory. However, the match did not conclude in Blair's favor, adding yet another loss to Blair's now 3-5 record.

Coach Jacob Scott believes that Blair should have won. "We are a better team than they are," he told the wrestlers after the match. "We just couldn't prove it to them on the mats."

The number of wrestlers on the team, which began the season as a smaller team than in previous years, has dwindled to the point that there were no junior varsity matches held. In fact, some JV wrestlers, such as freshman Bruno Falcon, have taken empty spots on the varsity line-up, leaving only one lone JV wrestler.

To make matters worse, junior Ben Silsbee (125) injured his left leg - possibly breaking one or more bones - during his Poolesville match, and freshman JV wrestler James Gillette (145) broke his arm in practice the day before.

Blair will be hosting a county tournament on Fri, Jan 17 and Sat, Jan 18. However, the team's next match is on Fri, Jan 25 at Einstein.
